Dear Writers and Friends,

It’s hard to believe, but the back-to-school season is just around the corner. As we prepare for the fall semester of classes and retreats, there’s much to look forward to.

Matthew Félix and I welcomed an incredible group of creative and inspiring writers in Sonoma for our second The Body & The Pen Retreat. We’re excited to announce that we are planning a two-day version 11/9-10 in beautiful Tomales Bay! Find out more here.

In October, I am excited to offer a new class series hosted by the Writers Grotto titled Deep Dive: Connecting with Your Writer’s Voice Intensive. This workshop is an extension of my 2-hour class and is designed to help you connect with your unique writer’s voice, providing valuable insights and techniques.

Starting in September join me for the weekly Time to Write Group. The hardest part of writing is finding time to do it! “Time to Write” is a weekly ongoing group meeting online. It brings together writers from diverse backgrounds and genres to write together and play on the page.

Wait…there is more:

The fall book catalogs are brimming with exciting new releases. I’d like to share a few that you may be less aware of:

What I Know About You by Éric Chacour, translation by Pablo Strauss(September 2024) – Set in Cairo and Montreal, this novel is part mystery, part love story, spanning decades and centered around a tragic, forbidden romance between two men. Their love not only transforms their lives but also tears apart a family. This novel will break your heart and mend it in unexpected ways, all while keeping you guessing about the identity of the narrator.

Reservoir Bitches by Dahlia de la Cerda, translation by Heather Cleary & Julia Sanches (September 2024) Not a book for the faint-hearted, Reservoir Bitches is a daring and provocative short story collection of thirteen Mexican female characters confront their unique circumstances.

Thunderhead by Miranda Darling (October 2024) – I am mildly obsessed with the novel’s seductive voice. Told in a stream-of-consciousness style and fragments, reminiscent of Jenny Offill’s Dept. of Speculation.

Thank you for reading.

Write on,

Britta
